About Us

Who we are

RARE is a Mental and Emotional health organisation with a focus on Rape, Abuse and Rejection Experiences of young persons in secondary and tertiary institutions.

What do we do?

We provide therapy, legal support, awareness, and empowerment for survivors. We also believe we can reduce these experiences to the barest minimum by creating a global and national community advocating against these issues.

Why does it matter?

Research indicates that more than 40% of young people have experienced some form of rape, abuse, or the effects of broken homes and family separation. These experiences have profound consequences on their mental health, education, career prospects, and overall quality of life. Left unaddressed, this growing crisis poses serious risks to the stability of our universities, the strength of our families and future families, and the health of society at large. Project R.A.R.E. seeks to address this urgent need through therapy, counselling, mentorship, and empowerment initiatives.

R.A.R.E Background

RARE began in 2022 as a vision driven by passion, initiated by three young women who convened weekly meetings for young people every Sunday. Over the course of a year, this intimate circle steadily grew from 3 members to a thriving group of 20 people.

In July 2023, the initiative hosted its first major program under the banner of RARE 1.0. Unlike the initial gatherings, this event was inclusive and not gender-specific, attracting an impressive audience of over 300 participants.

Through this program, Project RARE successfully established a vibrant community of more than 400 young people. Beyond community building, the initiative has directly impacted lives by supporting over 10 people through access to therapy, mentorship, and business empowerment opportunities equipping them with tools for healing, resilience, and growth.

In 2025 RARE 2.0 was held and hosted over 600 people in attendance. The community has also grown to over 700 people advocating for these issues.
